I've been curious about this for awhile now... regarding 'My big fat gypsy wedding'?

Why are they so discriminated against? Sure, they're unusual by most people standards.(from what i've seen anyway) But what is the actual reason? I've watched a few episodes of the show and i really don't understand--other than most people don't seem to like them. And when they find out who they are--they get booted out of places... If some one could give me an explanation that would be great.
